- What is Ironman Brazil?
- Ironman Brazil is the biggest triathlon race in Latin America. It comprehends 3.8 km (2.4 miles) swimming, 180 km (112 miles) cycling and 42 km (26.2 miles) running. Ironman Brazil is the only Latin America race classification stage for the Ford Ironman World Championship, in Hawaii.
- When will this year’s Ironman Brazil edition take place?
- Ironman Brazil 2011 will take place on Sunday, May 29th.
- Where will the event take place?
- It will be in the magical island of Florianopolis. The Start, Transition Areas, and Finish will be carried out at Jurere Beach, on the North of the island.
- Which are the distances to be covered and the time limit to complete them?
- There will be 3.8 km of swimming, 180 km of cycling and 42 km of running.The athlete will have, from the moment of the start, up to 02:30 h to complete the Swimming section, up to 10:40 h to complete the Bike section and 17:00 hours to complete the Running section. The athlete who exceeds the cutoff time for any of these courses will be disqualified, being unable to proceed in the race.

Hawaii Qualification
- What is the Ironman Triathlon World Championship?
- The first Ironman race was disputed in Hawaii (USA). In 1978, 15 athletes participated in the race. The Ford Ironman World Championship, in Hawaii, takes place every year gathering approximately 1,500 athletes. Held on the Kona Island, the Ford Ironman World Championship originated the Ironman Circuit, with qualifying contests spread all over the world. Today, there are 24 classification contests for the Ford Ironman World Championship, and Ironman Brazil is the only contest classification stage in Latin America.
- Will the Ironman Brazil open entries for the Ironman Triathlon World Championship?
- Yes, the Ironman Brazil will qualify 50 athletes for the 2011 Ford Ironman Championship in Hawaii.
- How many slots will be distributed by category?
- The slot distribution will be proportionate to the number of athletes registered in each category. The slot distribution will be announced 20 days prior to the race, according to the WTC guidelines. To check how the slots are distributed this year, click here.
- In case I qualify for the Ironman Triathlon World Championship, what shall I do?
- Cryteria of slots distribution for the Ford Ironman World Championship (according to WTC rules): all pre qualified, to have right over the slots, must be present on 05/30, at 10:00 am, at Doze de Agosto Club, with the registration fee in dollar, in cash. In case the athlete is not present or does not have the amount in American dollars, he/she will lose the slot, and the next athlete will be called and thus successively. In case a slot from a determinate gender remains unfilled, the slot will be redirected to the category with the highest number of athletes. The entry fee for the 2011 Ford Ironman World Championship will be USD 650.00, plus the $10.00 USAT one-day membership fee.
The Race
- What time does the race start?
- Race starts at 7:00 am.
- Professionals and amateurs start at separate times?
- No, all athletes will start at the same time, with the professionals positioned ahead of the amateurs.
- How will the race course be?

- Are wetsuits allowed?
- The use of a wetsuit permitted to the athlete of age group. The professional athlete can only compete wearing a wetsuit at water temperature bellow 22ºC. The Event’s Direction will measure the water temperature on the days of the Technical Congress, as an alert, informing same of the measurement and, one and a half hour before the start, a new measurement will be taken, which result will be announced on the sound system, to determine whether the use is permitted or not.
- What kind of foods will be distributed during the race?
- Food and Drink stations along the race will have Gatorade, water, soft drinks, bread, fruits (banana, watermelon, orange), and cake.
- Is it allowed to use a rear disk wheel on the bicycle?
- Yes, disc wheels will be allowed in our race.
- Is it allowed to use headsets?
- It is forbidden to the athlete the use of headsets; its use is punished with a yellow card.
Florianopolis
- Where is the city located?
- Florianopolis is the capital of the State of Santa Catarina. It’s in the Southern Region of Brazil, on an average distance of a one-hour flight from Rio or Sao Paulo. To get there, you must board a plane in one of those cities. The airport codes are: Rio de Janeiro International Airport (Aeroporto Internacional do Rio de Janeiro - GIG), Santos Dumont Airport (Aeroporto Santos Dumont - SDU), Sao Paulo International Airport (Aeroporto Internacional de São Paulo - GRU), Congonhas Airport (Aeroporto de Congonhas - CGH) and Florianopolis Airport (Aeroporto de Florianópolis - FLN).
- Why was Florianopolis chosen to seat the Ironman Brazil?
- The city is one of the major destination points for incoming tourists. It counts with an excellent infrastructure to welcome all involved in the event, namely: athletes, sponsors and fans. In addition, its climate conditions and its geography are much favorable for a race like Ironman.
- Where can I get Florianopolis lodging information?

- How is the climate like in Florianopolis during the contest time?
- Water temperature is around 21.5ºC (70.7ºF) and air humidity is about 55%. Wind conditions may vary from one year to another, but for the last three years we have had moderate winds, which makes the Ironman Brazil a fast race. For further area wheather information, click here.
