GENERAL RULES

1. The race will be run on the following categories: Male Age-Group: 18 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 65 to 69 and 70 or older. Female Age-Group: 18 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 65 to 69 and 70 or older; Male Professional; Female Professional.

2. It will be considered, for the classification  in the age group, the athlete's age on the December 31th, 2011.The minimum age for participation is 18 years old. As regards these rules, the reference date for the contestant's age is the day of the race, May 29th, 2011.

 3. Registrations limit: 1,800 athletes.

 4. The athlete who, in the period from June 2010 to May 2011, competed as a Professional/Elite in ½ Ironman and Ironman events, or similar events with the same distance, anywhere in the world, will only be able to participate in Ironman Brasil 2011 in the Elite category.

5. Registration fee is US$ 575.00.

6. The entry deadline for Ironman Brazil 2011 is March 29th 2011 or when it achieves the technical limits of 1.650 athletes.

7. The entry fee includes a ticket to the Carbo Loading Dinner and the Awards Lunch and Party.

8. Athletes withdrawing on or before April 29th, 2011 will receive a refund of half the registration fee, under any circumstances. After April 29th, 2011, there will be no refunds.

9. It is not possible to transfer the registration to other people or to forthcoming Ironman Brasil races.

10. The athletes can register online at www.ironmanbrasil.com.br.

11. Incomplete application forms will not be accepted.

12. When applying for the competition, the athlete must be aware of the Regulations, Standards and Procedures and the Event’s Schedule. At the athlete's kit delivery, he/she must fulfill and sign the required Medical Form.

13. The competition kit will be delivered on 05/26/2011 from 9 am to 6 pm, on 05/27/2011 from 9 am to 6 pm, and on the 05/28/2011 from 8 am to 11 am, at Doze de Agosto Club. The athlete who doesn`t get the competition kit on these days and schedules, will be disqualified and will lose the rights over it.

14. To get the competition kit, the athlete must present his/her passaport, and sign the medical record.

15. The athlete who gives his/her race kit to someone else, as well as the athlete who receives it, will be suspended for two years from any Ironman race around the world.

16. IRONMAN BRAZIL will qualify 50 athletes for the 2011 FORD IRONMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - HAWAII among racers in Male and Female Age Group categories. Slots distribution will be proportional to the number of registrations in each category and will be revelead 20 days before the event (according to WTC rules).

17. Professional athletes who finish Ironman Brazil 2011 will add points to their Pro ranking for classification to Hawaii. At the end of the season, athletes with the higher scores will qualify for the 2011 Ford Ironman World Championship.

18. Cryteria of slots distribution for HAWAII IRONMAN (according to WTC determination): all pre-qualified, to have right over the slot, must be present on day 05/30, at 10 am, at Doze de Agosto Club, with the registration fee in American dollars. In case the athlete is not present at the call or does not have the amount in dollars, he/she will lose the slot, and the next athlete will be called and thus successively. In case a slot of a determinate gender remains unfilled, it will be redirected to the category with the highest number of athletes. The entry fee for the 2011 Ironman Triathlon World Championship will be US$ 650.00, plus the $10.00 USAT one-day membership fee.

19. Every athlete registered at the race will be "insured" from the swim start until the end of his/her participation on the event. The Organization is not responsible for any problems the athlete may have before or after the race.

20. The organization will cover the amount of R$ 3,000.00 (three thousand reais) related to the expenses with doctor and hospital. Expenses exceeding this amount will be under the athletes responsibility. In case of disability or death, the Organization, by means of the insurance company, will pay thirty thousand Brazilian reais (R$ 30,000.00).

21. Bike check-in is obligatory, at the entrance of the transition area, on 05/28 - from 1 pm to 8 pm, according to the table below. Athlete must present his/her equipments for the race: bike, helmet with the bib number stick on frontal part, cycling and running bags from Race Organization. After bike check-in procedure, the bikes will set on the bike racks at the Transition Area and the bags and helmet must be delivered by the athlete at the Changing Tent.

22. The bike check-out will be based on the time limit for the Bike session, on 05/29, from 5:40 pm until 05/30 at 12:30 am., with the delivery of the ankle tag chip. If by any reason the athlete is not able to do it, he/she will appoint someone, through an appropriate document from the race-kit and with this, the anklet and the chip in hands he/she will be able to make the withdrawal. The failure to return the ankle tag chip transfers the procedure to the following morning, in the Lost and Found Section, after paying the amount of one hundred Brazilian reais (R$ 100.00) at the Administrative Section as a refund to the Organization for the lost equipment.

23. Cycling and Running equipment bags must be turned in by the athletes, on 05/28, Saturday, at the Changing Tent, between 1:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Cycling and Running special needs bags, which utilization is optional, can be turned in by the athletes in the race day, Sunday, from 4:30 am to 6:30 am, at the entrance of the Transition Area.

24. During the race, athletes are responsible for getting their Cycling and Running special needs bags in pre-determined spots. Each of these sites will have a delimited area where the bags will be displayed according to numerical order.

25. By giving special needs bags to the race’s Organization, it is established that responsibility over them finishes in the moment athletes pick them up at the ‘Delivery Station’, within the time limit for each modality. After the race, course bags that were given to the Organization by the athletes and are not taken by them at the specific area will be forwarded to the Chaging Tent and can be picked up in the check out.

26. Running course bags that we delivered by the athletes to the Organization and that are not taken in the specific area will be forwarded to the ‘Lost and Found’ section. They must be taken back, imperatively, in the day after the race until 3:00 pm.

27. The Organization is not responsible for athletes' belongings lost inside or outside the Transition area; it will, however, keep a room for the "lost and found" items.

28. The Lost and Found sector will be open for delivery of material on 5/30 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. After this period, the material that has not been picked up will be forwarded to charity entities.

29. Considering race start time, each modality has a time limit. Swimming will have a maximum time of 2h30min. Cycling will have a 10h40min time limit, of which 8h10min to pass by km 125 and, from this on, 2h30min to complete the course. Time limit for running is 17h00min. The athlete who exceeds the time limit of either modality will be disqualified and must leave the course. From the time limit for each modality on, security apparel will be removed.

30. The athlete who does not strictly conform to the course for each section will be eliminated or disqualified at any time if there is proof from the official documentary controls of the race.

31. Upon returning from the Swim (beach), Bike and Marathon courses, there will be an electronic passage control.

32. There'll be 1 drinking station at Swimming, 16 drinking and feeding stations at Cycling and 22 at Running.

33. The athlete must dress up at the Change Tent; in case he/she does not do it, he/she will be penalized with 5 minutes to the total time; relapsers will be disqualified.

34. Each athlete is exclusively responsible for removing and placing one’s own material in the specific bags at the Exchange Tent.

35. The use of the ankle tag chip provided by the Organization is mandatory for all contestants during the whole race.

36. At the day oh the race, Sunday, the transition area will be opened at 4:30 am and will be closed at 6:40 am.

37. Any physical or moral offence from a contestant towards any member of the Organization will be penalized with disqualification, and the offender may be suspended from any IRONMAN event promoted by Latin Sports.

38. The medical care service will be able to remove from the race the athlete who is unable to continue, according to medical criteria.

39. Every contestant who finishes the whole race will receive a medal. The top three finishers in each category will receive a trophy and the top eight finishers in the Professional category, both sexs, will receive a cash award.

40. Money prizes (US$ 75,000.00) will be given to the first 8 (eight) Professional Men and the first 8 (eight) Professional Women athletes, according to the following breakdown:

4. US$ 4,000.00

5. US$ 3,500.00

6. US$ 2,000.00

7. US$ 1,500.00

8. US$ 1,000.00

41. Questions derived from the application or interpretation of the race’s specific Technical Regulation will be analised by a Competition Jury.

§1st  The punished athlete can appeal to the Competition Jury.

§2nd The appeal shall be referred to the Competition Jury by the punished athlete or his/her legal representative, or by an interested third part, to the Competition Jury President in a proper form given by the event organization.

§3rd Deadline for presenting recourse will be from 07h00min am to 08h00min am on May 30th 2011, at the event office.

§4th The appeal must contain:

I – the applicant’s qualification;

II – the athlete’s bib number;

III – a short explanation of the facts which generated the recourse;

§5th The appeal must not be prepared against facts generated by the referees’ interpretation.

§6th The applicant will be called in the appeal interposition moment.

42. The athlete has to be present or indicate someone to represent him/her at the awarding date; otherwise he/she will not be entitled to the award.

43 The organization has the power of taking any decision concerning the rules.

44. Any doubts arising from application or interpretation of race-specific Technical Rules will be analyzed by the Race's Referees.

Swimming (3.8 Km)

45. The race will have one mass start at 7:00 am. Time limit for entering the start area is 6:50 am. Professional athletes from both genders will be positioned in front of the athletes from other categories. The course consists of two legs of 1.9 km each.

46. The athlete must have his/her number marked on his/her body by an Organization member. The body marking will be done next to the Transition area on the day of the race, Sunday, from 4:30 am to 6:30 am.

47. The athlete must go around the buoys. The athlete, who doesnt do it, will be disqualified.

48. The athletes are obliged to wear the swimming cap given by the organization. The athlete, who doesn’t wear it, will be disqualified.

49. Its forbidden to use any kind of auxiliary equipment to swim. The athlete who does it, will be disqualified (except goggles and weatsuit clothes).

50. The use of a wetsuit permitted to the athlete of age group. The professional athlete can only compete wearing a wetsuit at water temperature bellow 22ºC. The Event’s Direction will measure the water temperature on the days of the Technical Congress, as an alert, informing same of the measurement and, one and a half hour before the start, a new measurement will be taken, which result will be announced on the sound system, to determine whether the use is permitted or not.

51. If an professional athlete use rubber outfit (wetsuit) without the event´s direction permission, he or she will be disqualified.

52. Its forbidden to run on the beach, except in a specific area delimited by the organization. The athlete who doesnt obey it, will be disqualified

53. The athletes are obliged to get out of the water 10 minutes before the competition starts. The athlete who doesn`t do it, will be disqualified.

Cycling (180 km. 2 laps of 90 km)

54. The contestant must always wear a fastened helmet when in contact with his/her bike. In case the athlete doenst do this, he'll be disqualified.

55. It's mandatory the use of a T-Shirt for the men

56. The race number must be visible on the bike, on the athlete's back and in front of the helmet; it shall not be altered from its original format. Failure to meet this rule will result in a yellow card penalty.

57. The athlete has to push his/her bicycle until the mounting lane and to get off the bicycle before the unmounting lane. In case he/she fails to do it, he/she will be penalized with 5 minutes to the total time.

58. It's prohibited the draft, the amateur and professional athletes have to  maintain a minimum distance of 10 meters from the athete before them. If the athlete does not obey he'll be given a yellow card.

59. The professional and amateur athlete will have 20 seconds to overtake.If the athlete does not obey he'll be given a yellow card.

60. Passing is determined when the athlete puts his front wheel side by side to the rear wheel of the athlete being overtaken. The athlete being overtaken will not be able to react until the passing is completed and he/she is out of the drafting zone of the passing cyclist. If the athlete being overtaken fails to observe this rule he/she will receive a yellow card.

61. The athlete who receives two yellow cards or 1 red card will be disqualified, being unable to continue the race.

62. When the athlete receives the yellow card penalty, he/she is forced to stop for the Referee to mark a slash across his/her race number (back). The stop place for the procedure will be determined by the Referee, who will always consider safety issues. The athlete who does not stop will receive a red card.

63. The athlete who receives a yellow card penalty in the Bike course has to do his/her penalty in the specific area. In case he/she fails to follow this rule, he/she will be disqualified.

64. At the Penalty Area the athlete is only allowed to drink water and go to the toilet; in case he/she needs medical attention, permission from the Area's Referee is required. In case the athlete does not observe this rule, he/she will be disqualified.

Running (42km)

65. Running course is 42.195 km long and will be raced in a course of one long lap and two short laps. The race number must be placed in the frontal part of the athlete's body, clearly visible and unaltered in any way. In case it is not, the athlete will receive a yellow card and will have 5 minutes added to his/her final time. In the relapse case, the athlete will be with the red card and will be declassified.

66. Individual non-participant escort runners or cyclists are prohibited. If a Referee identifies such an event, the athlete will receive a yellow card and will have 5 minutes added to his/her final time. The athlete who repeats the transgression once again, will be penalized with the red card and be disqualified.

67. It is forbidden to the athlete the use of headsets; its use is punished with a yellow card.

68. Male participants must wear t-shirts. In case a male athlete does not wear one or if the t-shirt is rolled up, he will receive a yellow card and will have 5 minutes added to his final time. The athlete who remains without T-shirt, will be disqualified.

69. Upon receiving a yellow card penalty, the athlete is forced to stop for the Referee to mark a slash across his/her race number.

70. The athlete who receives two yellow cards or 1 red card will be disqualified, being unable to continue the race.
